CENTELLA ASIATICA is a small perennial herbaceous creeper native to the wetlands particular in Asia. For many years it has been used as a medicinal herb for treatment of various skin conditions such as leprosy, lupus, varicose ulcers, eczema, psoriasis etc. Several studies have shown that topically applied creams containing Centella asiatica extracts are helpful in decreasing striae gravidarum (stretch marks) developed during pregnancy. Additionally, the extract has shown to be beneficial in decreasing the scarring seen during wound healing.

Centella asiatica biosynthesises active constituents called triterpenoids; asiaticoside, brahmoside, asia acid and brahmic acid that are believed to be responsible for its wide therapeutic actions.
